Rocca di Montegrossi is simply one of my favorite Chianti producers. This wine delivers so much flavor and complexity for the price that it is almost laughable. And the wines are singular in their expression to boot. Lovely cherry, leather and dark chocolate fruit balanced with bracing freshness. This wine manages to deliver dense, ripe (but not overripe) fruit while simultaneously remaining vervy and cool. Although it’s a fairly clean wine, it does provide a little funk/animale. Not sure I can put this producer into a stylistic bucket such as “traditional” or “modernist”…it seems they combine a traditional feel with more “modern” fruit in terms of style. I can definitely recommend this wine highly.
